Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts?

To answer this question, I decided to look at my billboard and my website separately. I also decided to this using different media formats.

BILLBOARD:

Transcript:

The combination of my ancillary products, my website and billboard, with my main products, the magazine pages, is very effective. I feel that I tied my products together well and that all five of the pieces work well together.
In this video, I will look at the combination of the billboard with the three main products. I will explain how I have linked the products together.
Firstly, as you can see, they are clearly for the same product as the masthead is the same on both. They both have the title of Matrimony and they both use the Wonderland font.  You also see the same tag line which is the slogan of the magazine and links the products together by virtue of them both having it.
We also see the same models styled in the same way. Using the same model throughout on this issue made all of the products tie together. Whilst I ensured that all of my images were unique, they all tie together because of this common feature.
The way I edited the images was also similar. They all have raised saturation and warming filters. I also brought out pink or purple tones in all of them to give them all the same sort of effect. This was also one way to appeal to my target audience as women stereotypically like pink.
Next, I used genre conventions. They are all styled in wedding attire. Andy's shirt and waistcoat may not be traditional but it definitely shows that he is styled for a formal event. Toni's dress cannot be seen but her tiara accessory can and this is bridal styling.
The intimate poses are also related to bridal magazines and having a romantic and intimate pose connotes the genre of my product. The expression too. The super smiler expression is one of the two most used in bridal magazines from my experience.
The tag line also conveys that is is a regional bridal magazine through use of language. It mentions the North East and it mentions marriage and leaves no room for the viewer to be uncertain about what kind of product this is.

Conclusion:
I used the same masthead, same tagline, same models. I edited the images using similar techniques and I used genre conventions with the styling and the poses. This creates a link between the products and makes my product look like a complete whole rather than two separate products.

WEBSITE:

The first draft of my magazine did not match my main products. Below, I created a comparison. You can see how my ideas developed to create a product that was more effective.  The final product combines more effectively with my main products.

In these images, you can see me explain why these products work so well together. There are a range of different reasons:

Conclusion:
The masthead is used throughout, the colour scheme mixes well, the same model has been used throughout, genre conventions have been used, similar props have been used, serif fonts have been used, the same publisher is referenced, the editors note is used once again and the layout is kept similar. The same font is used for the pull quotes, the article content is similar, the written content has the same tone, the front cover is seen on the purchase page, the other front covers have a house style.
